Mele a Hakuwale: How to Apply
Applying to Mele a Hakuwale is a two-step process:
1) Fill out the online registration form
2) Send an email, attaching a photo of yourself (if you do not have a website or facebook page) and a sample of your singing as an mp3 file. Please read Rhiannon's instructions on the right side of this page.

Tuition and Deposit
Upon acceptance, you may reserve your spot by paying a deposit or the full tuition, due at the time of acceptance.
This payment holds your place in the retreat.

Tuition includes all workshop sessions, lodging, lunch and 2 dinners (breakfast and 5 dinners on your own)..Singers should fly into the Hilo International Airport. Ground transportation will be shared between the singers in each house.
Margie will help to organize ground transportation for your arrival day which is Friday, Dec.1, 2023 and departure which is Saturday, December 9, 2023.
Note: there are no workshop sessions on arrival and departure days.
Mp3 Audition Instructions
I would like to ask you to participate in an audition. In this day and age, mp3s are such an easy way to move sound around. If you cannot manage an MP3 please call Margie and she will offer some other options. The purpose of this audition is to help me put a balanced group of singers and improvisers together, which benefits everyone in the end. Please don't stress about it, but just sing to me what you know from your music experience.
1. Sample #1: Sing one minute or less of a song that you feel comfortable with (not the whole song). Please sing without accompaniment..... a cappella is requested.
2. Sample #2: Then sing a one minute or more sample of you improvising. Try to include something that demonstrates your understanding of rhythm, syncopation, melody and scales (if you don't understand this, don't worry about it. Just do what you do.) Again, no instruments..... A cappella is requested.
