from Rhiannon....

I saw this video on the internet and was struck by her capacity for language and her freedom and desire to express herself.  I let it go out of my mind... I thought, but it is in the nature of improvisation that what ever goes in may very soon find its way back out. In the next days, I recorded this Spontaneous album in LA. Our sessions were live, with an audience and completely improvised.  I began to sing lyrics about redwood trees and suddenly that little girl in her pink car seat came clearly back to my mind.  What a pleasure to have that concrete video scene in my mind as I was singing. I got clear and musical energy from her that night.  I am grateful to her wild child mind and the gift of improvisation that takes whatever is useful in the mind and turns it into song.

Keep On

Push on through, don’t push too hard
If you cannot feel the difference between pushing and pushing hard, wait a while.
Let eight bars go by.
There’ll be eight more bars, sure as the sunrise.
Mark the middle of the beat with your heart,
that’s all, with your heart.
Don’t let ‘em tell you any different. Don’t let ‘em tell you any more than that.
Go on, but don’t push.

Perfect, this time, you want something perfect,
So you keep on tryin’, keep on learnin’, keep on studyin’, keep on.........
Keep on pushin’, keep on tryin’, keep on studyin’, keep on…………
Keep on hopin’, keep on singin’, keep on movin’, keep on growin’, keep on………
Keep on growin’, keep on dancin’, keep on tryin’, keep on growin’
Keep on, keep on, keep on……….

Keep on growin’, keep on tryin’, keep on lovin’, keep on dancin’…………………

Try hard, keep on…………………………….
