Friday Jan 18 - Arrival Day
Ground transportation will be provided for all participants from the Hilo airport on arrival day-Jan 18.
We recommend everyone stop by a market on the way to check-in so you can pick up some kitchen essentials for breakfast.
The week will begin with a welcome dinner at 5 pm at a restaurant in Hilo.
This meal is at the expense of each participant..
After dinner-everyone should go back and settle in so you will be ready to go on sat morning for our first workshop sessions!
Saturday Jan 19 - Sat Jan 26 - Workshop Session and special events
Participants will be assigned to either group A (beginner) or B (intermediate/advanced). We will consider registration information carefully to provide each drummer with the best experience, so we appreciate your taking time to fill out the registration form with this in mind. The faculty looks forward to learning about you and your musical life before the retreat begins.
Schedule Overview: Each morning, with a few variations, drummers will meet in their small group for two classes, and will have a total of three sessions with each of our teachers over the course of the week. In the afternoons, all drummers will come together in a large group for sessions with Born To Drum faculty and/or guest artists.
Additional activities will be offered, including faculty and student performances, swimming, a day trip to the volcano, a visit to Hilo and the farm markets, beautiful prepared farm lunches, an evening bonfire with star gazing and snacks, and other Hawaiian experiences. At the end of the week we will come together for a last farm dinner and concert. See grid below for details.
