Travel Advice from our host David Blehert-the owner of Hale Kai retreat center
Guests fly into the airport at Kailua Kona, on the Big Island of Hawaii. The airport is 28 miles north of our beach, or about an hour drive. We ask that groups or guests do not arrive to the retreat center  earlier than 3 p.m. to check in, and that guests are out of their rooms by 10 a.m on departure day.

Living Arrangements at Hale Kai:
Hale Kai is like a tiny village in an old Hawaiian neighborhood - a unique cluster of wonderful spaces, each different and lovingly furnished. It is off the grid and solar-powered. Most rooms house 2 or 3 people, and so communal living is a fact of life in this setting.

(If you play and want to bring and instrument please feel welocme to bring your  Instrument (guitar, etc.)

CONSIDER THIS....
Google Island Naturals down in Kanelio on the right in a small, very small mall called MANGO CRT. There are little restaurants along the way as well but this is a good place to pick foods they might want chocolate, wine etc & have a nice prepared lunch.
If they want snorkel gear they should stop & get it on the way down. Better to do these things so they don't have to drive back up the hill.

As always--please contact Margie for more info. With love , Margie    mtfarmer@classactsontour.com   410-374-9059

Singers will be picked up by someone on Rhiannon's team in Kona (on Ali Drive) or from the KOA airport between 10 am and 2 pm)
Please be sure Margie knows your arrival and departure details. mtfarmer@classactsontour.com

Restaurant & market recommendations in Kona
For all who might be looking for a healthy and reasonably priced restaurant in Kona, there is a lovely place called Island Lava Java that serves a wonderful breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It is a great place to get yummy Kona coffee drinks - on Alii Drive overlooking the ocean.

There is a farmers' market in Kailua Kona by the church on Alii Drive with local fruit and wonderful jams and interesting jewelry, and sarongs.  The  "Lilikoi butter" that can be found there is eyes-rolled-back into your head delicious!  And  nice snorkel mask or googles will serve you well when we swim with the dolphins that are likely to appear once all the great singing starts...:)

Island Naturals down in Kailua Kona is in a very small mall called Mango Court. There are little restaurants along the way as well but this is a good place to buy natural foods (chocolate, wine, prepared foods).

Hawaii Accommodations

Here are some suggestions for accommodations on the big island of Hawai'i, on both the Kona (west) side and Hilo (east) side.  This is advice from singers who have come early or stayed on for a few days after a workshop.
We hope this is helpful info for you!

Kona side

Alii Drive is where many hotels are located - an ocean drive and a convenient pickup location.

Royal Kona Hotel
On Alii Drive...nice...a bit expensive but lovely. Consider looking for a deal through hotel.com..Many singers from past years have enjoyed staying at this hotel. Consider sharing a room with another singer that is coming in early.

Kona Tiki Hotel
A less expensive option on Ali drive, up the street from some hotels where singers often stay …convenient for the drivers..

Thiskona Tikki Hotel
No websit. Phone reservations only, at (808) 329-1425. They use US cash only. Very quirky...but just fine! Some singers loved it there in past seasons.. Right on the ocean... They feed you breakfast... But no shuttle service from the airport.

King Kamehameha Hotel
Rooms about $200...or so

Manago Hotel
In Captain Cook. Rooms have been as  low as $35 with shared bathrooms. Best are in the newer part of the hotel facing the ocean, 2 & 3rd floor, own bathroom. Good restaurant in hotel. Very low key but might be great for someone sometime.
